Yeshua the Messiah

Who Yeshua (Jesus) is, and what he taught — as confessed at House of Miriam.

What We Confess

House of Miriam is a Christian resource: we follow Yeshua (Jesus) of Nazareth as the Messiah, the promised anointed one of Israel, and the unique Son of the one God. We hold to the strict oneness of God the Father, and we confess Yeshua as His Son and our Master — the Son of God, not God the Son.

"This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Yeshua the Messiah whom You have sent." — John 17:3

In this we stand with the earliest believers, for whom there was "one God, the Father… and one Lord, Yeshua the Messiah" (1 Corinthians 8:6). The Father alone is God; Yeshua is His Messiah and Son, exalted at His right hand — distinct from the Father, and not a second deity.

Fully Human, the Son of God

We understand Yeshua as truly human — born of Miriam (Mary), a descendant of David, tested in every way as we are, yet without sin. He is the Son of God as the Messiah and the perfect reflection of His Father, not a pre-existent divine being equal to God.

"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Messiah Yeshua." — 1 Timothy 2:5
"Yeshua of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him…" — Acts 2:22

This confession sets House of Miriam apart from Trinitarian Christianity (which holds Yeshua to be God), while affirming him far more fully than a merely human teacher. He is the Messiah, the Son of God.

He Lived the Torah

Yeshua was born under the Torah and kept it faithfully — the Sabbath, the feasts, and the commandments — leaving an example for those who follow him.

"Don't think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets. I didn't come to destroy, but to fulfill… whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven." — Matthew 5:17–19
"…born of a woman, born under the law." — Galatians 4:4

Because he upheld the Torah rather than setting it aside, following Yeshua and keeping the Torah are, for us, one path and not two.

What He Taught

When Yeshua was asked for the greatest commandment, he answered with the Shema and its companion — the very words at the heart of the Torah:

"The greatest is: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart…' The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." — Mark 12:29–31 (quoting Deuteronomy 6:4–5; Leviticus 19:18)

His teaching runs throughout this site — in how we pray (see: Prayer and How-To), how we keep the Sabbath and the feasts, and how we treat one another. He taught mercy, humility, faithfulness, and sincerity of heart over outward show.

His Death and Resurrection

We hold that Yeshua gave his life as a ransom, died, and was raised on the third day — and that he now serves as High Priest before the Father on behalf of his people.

"…Messiah died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." — 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

His resurrection is the ground of the movement's hope in the resurrection of the dead and the restoration of all things (see: FAQ).

The Father and the Son

Holding both truths together — the strict oneness of God and the messiahship of Yeshua — is the heart of House of Miriam's faith. The Father is the one God; Yeshua is His Son, His Messiah, and our Master. To honour the Son is to honour the Father who sent him.
